Ibiza
Island
Ibiza,
one of the Balearic islands is situated most westly of the three isles,
and together with the smaller island Formentera it formes ’Las
Pitiusas’ = island of pinetrees.
Ibiza, as most beautiful
of both Pitiusas offers its visitors the chance to vanish among a large
number of island corners to enjoy the islands nature and sea calmly and
without any noise. Ibiza enjoys a
Mediterrenean climate, with summer temperatures between 25° - 30° and

visitors over 18 km of beaches to explore, among which one will find
family beaches, sports beaches,
solitary beaches, wild beaches, tranquil beaches and
beaches with deep or
shallow waters, safe for your children. You will have to make your
choice and remember that the island is only 572 m² wide, so all
distances are within easy reach.

Gastronomy
Ibiza’s culinary heritage is a mirror of its culture and its history.
Its tradtionally Mediterranean cuisine is extraordinary rich and varied
with over 200 different recipes considered typical ’Ibicencan’.
Exceptional fish recipes such as: Burrida de Ratjada, Langosta
Ibicenca or Guisat de Marisc = delicious ’hotpot’
of fish and seafood and ray with almonds belong to Ibiza’s
tradtional menu.
Some of the island’s most typical dishes are the arroz de matanzas
= soupy rice made with the produce from matanza or pig
killing, sofrit pagés = a dish for feast days, made with
meats, sobrasada and butifarra = local sausages and
potatoes, all made from typical regional products.
Pa amb oli = all time snack for a small price, which
consists of toasted bread with fresh tomato, oil and salt, usually
accompanied by a variety of cured meats and cheeses.
Small quadratic tartlets with fish, meat or vegetables = Coques,
also belong to the typical specialities of the island.
An abbundance in available desserts to choose from, such as Flaó,
a popular sweet one, or a tart of fresh cream cheese with herbs and
mint, orelletes, greixonera and buñuelos =
fried buns.....etc.
Ibiza has a great
tradition of liqueurs; well-kown is the herb-flavored liqueur ’Hierbas
ibicencas’ a good way to finish an opulent meal. Visitors
also should try the Frígola, and Palo,
liqueurs made with Ibizan digestive herbs, and that are drunk cold, with
ice or natural. |
Sightseeing / Leisure
Ibiza, often
called the White Island for its typical architecture, is
one of the world’s most important and popular tourist destinations since
the 60s.
Its ’hippie culture’ and
nudist beaches brought
fame to the island and more and more tourists visited the island in the
following decades.
Today Ibiza has a wide
offer, as well for families and older visitors, as the young tourists
who are attracted by the island’s
rollicking nightlife,
which starts at the beaches already in the afternoon, and also in the
center of town, to continue until dawn in the numerous discotheques. |
